Under the coordination of Dr. Nilgün Türkileri, from Psychology Department and our staff Dr. Ali Fuat Birol and Dr. Umut Yukaruç organised a workshop titled 'Individuals and Knowledge in the Post-Truth Era' for Ankara Düşünce Akademisi. The term post-truth was chosen as the word of the year by the Oxford Dictionary in 2016. Post-truth expresses the disappearance of the truths that individuals agree on. In this context, it is a very difficult and laborious task to separate true and true information from false and false information. With the influence of popular culture and the internet, it is seen that fake news and misinformation are quickly bought by individuals and spread in the form of social media tools and networks. This situation may lead to an increase in unproven claims such as conspiracy theories, a decrease in trust in state institutions and scientific experts, and may leave individuals with feelings such as uncertainty, fear and despair. In this workshop, it is tried to summarize what we face at the individual, social and political level in the post-truth era. In addition, some of the topics discussed in our workshop were: scientific knowledge, cognition, philosophy of mind, phenomenology, media literacy. You can watch this workshop, which lasted 10 weeks in total from here.
